TAGA(technical association of the graphic arts, www.taga.org) began in 1948 to provide a worldwide forum for sharing and disseminating theoretical, functional and practical information on current and emerging technologies for graphic arts print production and related processes. it is the association for the science and technology of printing and allied technologies. as such it has been at the forefront of the move of graphic arts from an art into a science, the adoption of manufacturing techniques to printing production and the application of printing for volume production.

TAGA runs an annual technical conference with published proceedings in north America each spring. It also holds specialist conferences and acts as co-sponsors for other technical conferences around the world. it was through this activity that the need for a peer reviewed journal was identified that led to the creation of the TAGA journal. The association also provides guidance and support to its 15 active student chapters around the world.

During 2004 - 2008 The TAGA journal was  published on behalf of TAGA by Swansea Printing Technology ltd, a spin out company of the Welsh Centre for Printing and Coating, Swansea university. From 1 June 2008, The TAGA Journal will be published by GATF, PA, USA.
